Hubris And Genius And Daring And Whimsy

Here are links to a number of things that I think are just amazing about being here.

This one is a curious bit of history.  A short documentary about the efforts to figure
out just how to get around in Antarctica in some other way than walking.
The Antarctic Snow Cruiser (16 minutes)

And here is another that is a cool short about how the annual summer overland traverse
transports fuel and supplies to the Pole, across a round trip of over 1600 miles.

This is also cool.  It is actually an advertisment for Hyundai, but it is definitely
more than that, as it puts a historical link that ups the cool by a magnitude.

ICEFIN... this is just a short video showing deployment of an underwate drone.  Britney Schmidt,
the inventor, made the beta in her spare time during another trip to Antarctica a few years back,
and then took it to NASA to ask if they would pony up a grant for a better model... her dream?
To send this under the ice of Saturnian moon Europa.  I got to spend an hour talking to her and
her team in the lab the other day, which ROCKED.

And then for the whimsical... my favorite one from a collection of entries from stations all
over the continent, representing the playful creativity of several countries...
